Is there anywhere local to get headers coated (ceramic or other)? Any recommendations and what kind of cost would it entail? I'm trying to decide on bare headers from one manufacturer and getting them coated on my own or getting ceramic coated headers directly fome a different manufacturer (though the coated ones are a slightly smaller diameter.

2 inch diameter bare vs. 1.75 inch coated. These are for the 390 in my
Galaxie.

This place isn't local, but lots of people on the motorcycle forums I'm on highly recommend this place:

Airborn Coatings (http://www.airborncoatings.com/)

They'll coat pretty much anything and the finish is very durable. They have a pretty speedy turn-around time too, I'm told. They have two facilities - the North Carolina is supposedly the better of the two as far as promptness.

If you poke around the website they have a price list.

Mot, any particular reason you want them coated? I know it keeps the heat in the engine compartment down but, is there really that much heat soak whether coated/not? On my GTO I had uncoated and didn't have any issues with heat soak at all (not anymore than usual I should say). The only thing is they took forever to cool down...

Those are the ones but primarily rust and overall looks. I put uncoated stainless steel on my V-10 Ford F250 and I'm sure they worked fine but they turned colors in different places due to the heat. I don't want to have to contort myself to clean them up or polish them for showing the car.

The downside is that the rest of the engine and bay don't look so hot right now but I plan on taking care of some of that by pulling the motor this winter to install the headers (and maybe a clutch?). While the motor is out, I'll clean it up, re-gasket the valve covers and intake and spray-bomb it if necessary.

For show car purposes, I guess coated is better. Although, some may argue the au natural look is better :)
