Thanks a bunch to Steve for providing a great brake dust removal product for painted or chrome wheels. Below are some pitures of showing how it worked for me after a day of over 60 laps at speed at BlackHawk Farms...

The first picture is the face and inside of my rear wheels after BlackHawk and after driving on one rainy day after the event. Followed by a comparson shot of the front wheel showing how much less dust collects with a brake cooling duct kit in place (stock rotors with Hawk Blues all the way around).

And now some pictures during the cleaning and after...(NOTE start with a cool wheel!!)

The first picture is after the second application of the wheel cleaner solution, allowing the second application again to stand for a few minutes (in a cool shaded area). You can see the brake dust disolving and dripping down the inside of the wheel.

That leads to the second picture, after some scrubbing with a soft bristle brush and rinsing.

The final picture is after it dried. There is a little more brake dust left but that comes off with a little elbow grease and some cleaner wax.

Thanks again, Steve!!!

Tom, glad to see you like the wheel cleaner. I also carry Wheel Seal just for the road racer. What did you end up running at Blackhawk?

My fastest lap was 1:29.7 though the majority of my laps were around 1:31 or so.

Is Wheel Seal any better than Meguires purple paint sealant (I forget the number, maybe # 21?)? Is Wheel Seal best for painted, chromed or bare metal wheels (or any combination of above)?

I'm going to Grattan again this coming Sunday with SATCAR. Just about have the wheels re-coated with the Meguires Sealant in preparation for the track again. SATCAR has Grattan reserved for both Saturday and Sunday but only Sunday works for me this time around. Registration can be done at the track if anyone is interested.

If anyone is interested about the makings on the tires seen above...

The letters designate where the tires were on the car (PF = Passenger side Front; DR = Driver side Rear for example) (ok, those were simple)

The numbers and arrows indicate the number of stick-on tire weights and their location so I can quickly tell if I lost any weights.

Tom, the wheel seal is designed for high heat and brake dust. Its really a thick paste. #21 is a great product for paint and will work on wheels to. If you have a half gallon of the #21 use it and when you run out give the wheel seal a try. Your times are right with my old GT/CS. Its actually pretty good considering the mustangs weigh about 3,700lbs and are on street tires. Heres a comparison for you Innrkid ran 1:28 last year at the driving school with his blown 427R. So the numbers are really good considering you are down about 130hp. Good luck next weekend.

Yes, I was on your basic street NITTO 555s. As street tires will, they "talked" to me a lot that day.

Next time I see you I'll pick up some of the Wheel Seal and save the Meguires #21 for the body...

Looks like a big improvement from what it looked like with all of the brake dust.

I use P21 wheel cleaner, it works well, but there are some crevices of my rims that have brake dust caked on from the previous owner's poor care. What did you use to get those results?

Congrats on those times at Blackhawk!!!

You'll have to ask Mr. ShowcarDetail Steve. It is a mix he concocted.
